Lyophilized vs reconstituted

Peptides arrive lyophilized — a freeze-dried powder. In this form they are the most stable. Once a solvent is added ("reconstituted"), the clock starts and storage becomes more important. This guide covers research handling only; it is not dosing guidance and nothing here is for human use.

Storing the powder

Sealed lyophilized vials are typically kept refrigerated and are stable for extended periods; for long-term storage many labs use a freezer. Keep vials sealed and away from light and moisture until they're needed.

Bacteriostatic water

The standard solvent for reconstitution is bacteriostatic water — sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative. The benzyl alcohol is what lets a vial be accessed multiple times in a research setting without the solution spoiling. After reconstitution

A reconstituted vial is generally refrigerated and protected from light. Avoid shaking vigorously; swirl gently to dissolve. Reconstituted peptides have a shorter usable window than the powder, so most protocols reconstitute only what a study will use.
