What is a peptide?
A peptide is a short chain of amino acids — the same building blocks that make up proteins, just fewer of them. In the body, peptides act as signaling molecules: they bind receptors and carry instructions between cells. That signaling behavior is exactly why they are studied so intensively in laboratory research.
A "research peptide" is a synthetic peptide manufactured to a high purity and sold as a chemical reference standard — a known material a lab can study in controlled, in-vitro settings.
What "research use only" means
Every compound in a legitimate catalog like ours is offered for laboratory research use only. These materials are not drugs, foods, cosmetics, or dietary supplements. They are not for human or veterinary consumption, and no claims are made about treating, curing, or preventing anything. This framing is both the law and the standard the whole field operates under.
How research peptides are supplied
Peptides are almost always shipped lyophilized — freeze-dried into a stable powder inside a sealed vial. In powder form they are shelf-stable and easy to transport. For study, researchers reconstitute the powder with a sterile solvent (see our guide on storage and reconstitution).
What quality actually looks like
The single biggest problem in the gray market is underdosing — vials that contain less active compound than the label claims, or impurities from sloppy synthesis. Quality signals to look for: a purity target of ≥99%, a third-party Certificate of Analysis (COA) for the batch, and verification by HPLC and mass spectrometry.
